Villa Medici | Rome, Italy
Ten years after its first presentation at Mucem in Marseille (April 29 – August 31, 2015) and following an international tour, Shared Holy Places arrives at Villa Medici in a new form, with exceptional loans from the Vatican Museums, the Louvre, Mucem – Museum of the Civilizations of Europe and the Mediterranean, MAXXI, and the Museo Ebraico di Roma. The exhibition invites visitors on a journey through cities, seas, gardens, caves, and mountains—landscapes conducive to the sharing of the sacred. It traces intertwined histories and shared heritages, charting a spiritual geography where traditions, dialogue, and artistic creation converge. Shared Holy Places is designed and co-produced by the French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici, Mucem, and the French Embassy to the Holy See – Pious Establishments of France in Rome and Loreto, based on an original exhibition by Mucem. The exhibition is curated by Raphaël Bories, Dionigi Albera and Manoël Pénicaud.
